Need a Programming Library?

If your interested in developing your own game then I would first like to warn you.  If you have no programming skills what-so-ever then you must slow down and learn.  There are tons of programming tutorials on youtube if you want something quick and easy.  For more advanced learners I would suggest a class at your local college, or jump into the deep end and get a book from the bookstore.  If you already know how to program in C++ then I would recommend using a pre-developed game engine.  I personally recommend libtcod, its an excellent start for developing "Roguelikes".

Happy programming!

10 year anniversary of Bay12 Games

With the completion of Toady One's animal sponsorship for fans of Dwarf Fortress it marks a milestone for Bay 12 Games.  The drive allowed fans to sponsor a specific animal to be added in game.  The name of the donator would then have their names place inside the source code of DF as an honorific.  Not only will it help keep Toady One faithfully programming but it show but also it helped to bring a record donation sum for December and pushed up the all time high for annual fan contributions.

What is Dwarf Fortress?

If your asking this question then you need to answer several of my own questions first.

1.)  Do you like strategy games?
2.)  Do you like content over graphics when choosing your games?
3.)  Do you want to be a part of a growing community?

If you answered yes to these than Dwarf Fortress is a good place to start.

Blogging on ASCII

Welcome to Pure ASCII.  I will focus purely on ascii games, such as the many roguelikes and of course my favorite game of all dwarf fortress.  If your looking for updates on these types of games look no further.  I'll post all the most interesting facts being developed and the links.  If you want to share a specific post or fact on a particular game that strikes your fancy leave us a comment.
